ANANDgrama

A Reunion with Life.

Some reunions bring back memories.
This one brings back life.

01 / The invitation

Old friends.
New questions.

When did we become strangers to our own lives?

Remember those school days?

When friendships needed no appointments. When happiness didn't need a reason. When we shared lunch boxes without asking whose food was better.

Then life happened.

We became engineers, doctors, lawyers, businesspeople, parents, leaders and professionals.

We learned how to earn a living.

But somewhere along the way, did we forget how to live?

ANANDgrama begins with this simple, uncomfortable and strangely beautiful question.

“They came to meet their old friends. They ended up meeting themselves.”
02 / The Film

A Reunion. A Conversation.
A Rediscovery.

In August 2020, as the world navigates an unprecedented pandemic, a group of former schoolmates reconnects after twenty-five years.

A WhatsApp group, a few unexpected messages and an impulsive plan bring them together at a secluded resort in the misty Brahmagiri hills of Kodagu.

They are no longer the children they once were.

One has built a successful career but struggles with relationships. Another carries the burden of expectations. Some have wealth but little peace. Some have little wealth but surprising contentment. Beneath their grown-up identities lie the friendships, insecurities, ambitions and dreams of their school days.

As the reunion unfolds, ordinary conversations about food, marriage, education, money, happiness and human behaviour take unexpected turns.

Between laughter and disagreements, old memories and new revelations, the friends begin questioning the very ideas on which they have built their lives.

ANANDgrama is a warm, humorous and thought-provoking journey into the extraordinary possibilities hidden within ordinary human conversations.

Brahmagiri — Where the Conversations Begin

Away from traffic, deadlines and crowded cities, the Brahmagiri landscape offers a different rhythm.

Here, the mornings arrive through mist. The evenings stretch into conversations. A cup of tea becomes an excuse to sit together a little longer.

For the classmates, this landscape is more than a reunion destination. It becomes a space where the noise of everyday life begins to fade—and forgotten questions return.

Not a sermon. Not another formula for happiness. A story.

ANANDgrama is a conversation-driven Kannada feature film blending comedy, nostalgia, human relationships, music and philosophical discovery.

There are no perfect people here. No ready-made solutions.

Only ordinary people with extraordinary questions.

Sometimes the answers make them laugh. Sometimes they make them uncomfortable. And sometimes, a seemingly casual conversation changes the way they look at life.

A question worth
sitting with.

Avirbhava · Writer & Director

Why ANANDgrama?

We spend a great deal of our lives learning how to become somebody.

We study, work, earn, build families, acquire responsibilities and gradually create identities around ourselves.

Yet, somewhere in this journey, a simple question often remains unanswered:

Are we actually enjoying the life we have worked so hard to build?

ANANDgrama was born from my interest in this question.

I have always believed that some of the most meaningful discoveries in life happen through ordinary conversations.

A joke among friends can reveal our ego. An argument about food can expose our conditioning. A casual discussion about education can make us question what we have actually learned.

Cinema gives us a wonderful opportunity to explore these moments without turning them into lectures.

In ANANDgrama, I want the audience to laugh with the characters, disagree with them, recognise themselves in them and occasionally sit silently with a question.

The film is not about presenting perfect people or prescribing a particular way of life.

It is about rediscovering our humanity through friendship, humour, memory and conversation.

I am especially happy that this film is being developed through a community-powered approach. It allows people who believe in meaningful storytelling to participate in bringing a story to the screen.

If audiences leave the theatre remembering an old friend, smiling at their own contradictions or asking themselves one meaningful question, ANANDgrama will have begun the conversation I hope it inspires.

With warmth,
